I obtained my Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of Windsor in Ontario in 1987. Even with three degrees in Psychology there was still much to learn. For two years I then worked as the Unit Psychologist on the Acute Treatment Unit at the Lake Head Psychiatric Hospital in Thunder Bay, Ontario. There I worked with people suffering from delusions, hallucinations, paranoia, psychotic depression, mania, and the full gamut of profound psychological disturbances. I learned many important things about compassion, tolerance for others experiences, respect and dignity for these sufferers, and the immense value of simply being with others.
When I came to Vancouver in 1989, I began working as a Psychologist at the Vancouver Health Department in Kitsilano. After a short while I began my own private practice and since then have worked almost exclusively with adults, either individually or as couples. People come to my office because they are having experiences such as depression, anxiety, relationship disturbance and a host of other difficulties, that they have not been able to solve for themselves. Of the many things I have learned through these experiences, perhaps the most remarkable is how much courage the people I have been privileged to work with bring to our session. They have been wonderful teachers.
